Salih Hamdani narrates about Imam Shabi: I saw a man from Khurasan come to Imam Shabi and say, "O Abu Amr! Among us, the people of Khurasan believe that when a person frees his slave-girl and then marries her, it is like a person who rides on his sacrificial animal." So Imam Shabi replied: Abu Burdah has narrated from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three people who will be given a double reward. A person from the People of the Book who believed in his prophet, and then lived to see the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), believed in him and followed him, he will have a double reward. A slave who fulfills the right of Allah upon him and also fulfills the right of his master upon him, he too will have a double reward. And a person who has a slave-girl, provides her with good food, gives her good education and upbringing, then frees her and marries her, he will also have a double reward." Imam Shabi said to the man from Khurasan: "You have obtained this hadith without any compensation, otherwise previously, for a narration of lesser content than this, one had to travel all the way to Madinah Munawwarah."
