Hadith 2230

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ ، سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تَسْبِقُونِي بِالرُّكُوعِ وَلا بِالسُّجُودِ ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ بَدَّنْتُ ، وَإِنِّي مَهْمَا أَسْبِقْكُمْ بِهِ حِينَ أَرْكَعُ ، تُدْرِكُونِي بِهِ حِينَ أَرْفَعُ ، وَمَا سَبَقْتُكُمْ بِهِ حِينَ أَسْجُدُ ، تُدْرِكُونِي بِهِ حِينَ أَرْفَعُ " .
Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stated this on the pulpit. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not try to go into bowing (ruku) or prostration (sajdah) before me, because my weight has increased. When going into ruku, I will go before you, so you will find me when I raise my head from ruku, and before you, when I go into sajdah, so you will find me when I raise (my head) from sajdah."
