Hadith 2162

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ الأَعْمَشَ عَنْ حَدِيثِ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ فِي الصُّفُوفِ الْمُقَدَّمَةِ ، فَحَدَّثَنَا ، عَنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلا تَصُفُّونَ كَمَا تَصُفُّ الْمَلائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهَا ؟ " . قَالَ : قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَكَيْفَ يَصُفُّونَ الْمَلائِكَةُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ ؟ . قَالَ : " يُتِمُّونَ الصُّفُوفَ الْمُقَدِّمَةَ وَيَتَرَاصُّونَ فِي الصَّفِّ " .
Zuhair bin Muawiyah narrates: I asked A’mash about this hadith regarding the first rows, which is transmitted from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), so he narrated with his chain from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Why do you not form rows as the angels form rows before their Lord?” The narrator says: We asked, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How do the angels form rows before their Lord?” The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “They complete the front rows and leave space in the rows behind.”
