Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) fell from a horse and was injured. He led us in prayer while sitting. We also performed the prayer sitting, following him. When he completed the prayer, he said: The Imam is appointed so that he may be followed. When he says the takbir, you also say the takbir. When he goes into ruku, you also go into ruku. When he raises (his head from ruku), you also raise (your heads). When he recites «سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ», you all recite «ربنا ولك الحمد». When he goes into prostration, you also go into prostration. When he performs the prayer sitting, then all of you should also perform the prayer sitting. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Some people of Iraq, who follow the school of Kufa, say that the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "When he performs the prayer sitting, then you all should also perform the prayer sitting," means that when he recites the tashahhud sitting, you all should also recite the tashahhud sitting. So this person has diverted this narration from its general meaning for which the narration was reported. And he has done so without any evidence by which his stated interpretation could be proven.
