المقدمةIntroduction
باب الاعتصام بالسنة وما يتعلق بها نقلا وأمرا وزجرا - ذكر البيان بأن النواهي سبيلها الحتم والإيجاب إلا أن تقوم الدلالة على ندبيتها-Chapter: Holding fast to the Sunnah – Clarification that prohibitions are binding unless evidence shows they are recommendations.
Hadith 21

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ هُمَامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ ، فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ قَبْلُكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ ، فَنَهِيَتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ ، فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ ، وَأَمَرْتُكُمْ بِالشَّيْءِ ، فَأْتُوا مَنَهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Leave me as I leave you regarding a matter; for indeed, those before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning of their prophets and their disagreements with them.
So when I forbid you from something, avoid it, and when I command you to do something, do of it as much as you are able."
