Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent back to him some food which contained some vegetables, including onions and garlic. Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) did not see any sign that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had eaten from it, so he himself refrained from eating it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: Why do you not eat it? He replied: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I did not see any sign of your eating from it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I feel shy before Allah’s angels. However, it is not forbidden.
