أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، وَشُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ ، قَالَ : أَلا أُهْدِي لَكَ هَدِيَّةً ؟ قُلْنَا : بَلَى . قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ عَرَفْنَا كَيْفَ السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَكَيْفَ الصَّلاةُ عَلَيْكَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " قُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates: Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Shall I not give you a gift? We said: Yes. He said: I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We have come to know how to send peace upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
