Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Previously, when we used to sit in prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we would say: “Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Sayyiduna Jibreel, peace be upon Sayyiduna Mika’eel, peace be upon so-and-so, peace be upon so-and-so.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned towards us and said: Allah Himself is the Giver of peace, so you should say this: “All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet, peace be upon you, and may Allah’s mercy and His blessings descend upon you. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.” (The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:) When you do this, you will have sent peace upon every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth.
