It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he saw a man moving pebbles with his hand during prayer. When the man completed the prayer, Sayyiduna Abdullah said to him: Do not move pebbles during prayer because this act is from Satan. Rather, do as the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, used to do. The narrator states: Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar placed his right hand on his knee and pointed towards the Qiblah with the finger next to the thumb. He kept his gaze towards this finger (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) in the direction of this finger. Then he said: I saw the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, doing like this.
