Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite approximately thirty verses in each of the first two units (rak'ahs) during the standing (qiyam) of the Zuhr prayer. And in one of the last two units, he would recite fifteen verses. In the first two units of the Asr prayer, he would recite about fifteen verses in each unit, and in each of the last two units, he would recite about half of that amount.
