Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Iman (faith) has 70 (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) or 72 doors, the highest of which is 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah), and the lowest is removing something harmful from the path, and modesty is a branch of faith." Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: In this narration, the reliance on the mentioned number, which is in the narration transmitted from Ibn Hād, is among those cases about which we have already stated in our books that sometimes the Arabs mention a number for something, but by this, it is not meant to negate anything other than that number. There are many examples of this, and we have mentioned many types of it, some of which we will mention later in their respective chapters.
