Hadith 1750

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَّرَ صَلاةَ الْعِشَاءِ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَنَامُوا ، وَإِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلاةٍ مُذِ انْتَظَرْتُمْ " . قَالَ أَنَسٌ : فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى وَبِيصِ خَاتَمِهِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the ‘Isha prayer until half the night had passed. Then he came and said: “People have performed the prayer and have gone to sleep, and you have been counted as being in prayer the whole time you were waiting for it.” Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The shine of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) ring is still before my eyes today.
