Ibn Muhairiz narrates: A man came to Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "O Abu Walid! I heard Sayyiduna Abu Muhammad Ansari saying that Witr is obligatory." Sayyiduna Ubadah said, "Abu Muhammad has said wrong." I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "There are five prayers which Allah has made obligatory upon His servants. Whoever performs them and completes them, and does not diminish anything from their due rights out of considering them insignificant, then for him there is a covenant with Allah that He will admit him to Paradise. And whoever performs them but diminishes something from their due rights out of considering them insignificant, then for such a person there is no covenant with Allah. If He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will have mercy on him." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: The saying of Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), "Abu Muhammad has lied," means he has said wrong. Similarly, it was the custom of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when someone said something wrong, it was said about him, "He has lied." Allah Almighty has protected the companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from anything objectionable. The statement of Allah Almighty is: "On that day Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believe with him, their light..." So when Allah has informed that He will not disgrace them on the Day of Judgment, then they are more deserving that no criticism be made upon them. The person who questioned Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Rafi’ Makhadji.
