Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, we were traveling at night with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We said: O Messenger of Allah! If you would allow us to touch the ground (i.e., stop and rest so that we may sleep and our animals may also rest). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: (i.e., who will wake us up for prayer?) The narrator says: I said: I will. Then I too fell asleep. I woke up when the sun had already risen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also woke up upon hearing our conversation. Then he instructed Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). He gave the adhan, then he gave the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer.
