أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الدُّولابِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْلَى بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ الْعَامِرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَجَّتَهُ ، فَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ صَلاةَ الصُّبْحِ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ مِنْ مِنًى ، فَلَمْا قَضَى صَلاتَهُ إِذَا رَجُلانِ فِي آخِرِ النَّاسِ لَمْ يُصَلِّيَا ، فَأُتِيَ بِهِمَا تَرْتَعِدُ فَرَائِصُهُمَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا : " مَا مَنَعَكُمَا أَنْ تُصَلِّيَا مَعَنْا ؟ " ، قَالا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كُنَّا قَدْ صَلَّيْنَا فِي رِحَالِنَا ، قَالَ : " فَلا تَفْعَلا ، إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمَا فِي رِحَالِكُمَا ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُمَا مَسْجِدَ جَمَاعَةٍ ، فَصَلِّيَا مَعَهُمْ ، فَإِنَّهَا لَكُمَا نَافِلَةٌ " ، قَالَ الشَّيْخُ : قَوْلُهُ فَلا تَفْعَلا لَفْظَةُ زَجْرٍ مُرَادُهَا ابْتِدَاءُ أَمْرٍ مُسْتَأْنَفٍ .
Jabir bin Yazid Amiri narrates from his father: I participated in the Hajj (i.e., the Farewell Pilgrimage) with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I performed the morning prayer behind him in the Mosque of Khaif in Mina. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) completed the prayer, there were two men behind the people who had not performed the (congregational) prayer. Both of them were brought before the Prophet (peace be upon him), and they were trembling. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: What is the reason that you both did not pray with us? They replied: O Messenger of Allah! We had already performed the prayer at our place of residence. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Do not do so; when you have performed the prayer at your place of residence and then you come to a mosque where the congregational prayer is being held, then perform the prayer with those people as well; it will be counted as a voluntary prayer for you. The Sheikh says that the statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him), "Do not do so," is a word of prohibition, but its purpose is to give an initial ruling.
