باب الاعتصام بالسنة وما يتعلق بها نقلا وأمرا وزجرا - فصل ذكر البيان بأن المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يأمر أمته بما يحتاجون إليه من أمر دينهم قولا وفعلا معا-Chapter: Holding fast to the Sunnah – Clarification that the Prophet instructed his nation in both word and deed.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّغُولِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيَمُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي يَدِ رَجُلٍ ، فَنَزَعَهُ فَطَرَحَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " يَعْمِدُ أَحَدُهُمْ إِلَى جَمْرَةٍ مِنَ النَّارِ ، فَيَجْعَلُهَا فِي يَدِهِ " ، فَقِيلَ لِلرَّجُلِ بَعْدَمَا ذَهَبَ : خُذْ خَاتَمَكَ ، فَانْتَفِعْ بِهِ ، فَقَالَ : لا وَاللَّهِ لا آخُذُهُ أَبَدًا وَقَدْ طَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a gold ring in a man's hand, so he removed it and put it aside. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A person goes towards a burning coal of Hell and puts it in his hand." (The narrator states) When the Prophet (peace be upon him) left, it was said to that man: Take your ring and benefit from it (i.e., sell it and use its price), but the man said: No, by Allah! I will never take it, after the Prophet (peace be upon him) has put it aside.
