Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A woman came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: O Messenger of Allah! My husband (Sayyiduna Safwan bin Mu'attal, may Allah be pleased with him) is such that when I pray, he beats me, and when I keep a voluntary fast, he makes me break my fast, and he himself does not perform the Fajr prayer until the sun has risen. The narrator states: Sayyiduna Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about what the woman had said. Sayyiduna Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: O Messenger of Allah! As for her saying that when I pray, he beats me, the reason is that she recites two surahs, so I forbid her from this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If it were only one surah, that would also suffice for the people. Sayyiduna Safwan said: As for her saying that when I fast, he makes me break my fast, she keeps fasting continuously, and I am a young man, I cannot be patient. On that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No woman should keep a (voluntary) fast without her husband's permission." Sayyiduna Safwan said: As for her saying that I do not pray until the sun has risen, the situation in our house is such that we do not wake up until the sun has risen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you wake up, then perform the prayer.
