Hadith 1409

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الطُّفَاوِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَتْ سَوْدَةُ بِنْتُ زَمْعَةَ امْرَأَةً جَسِيمَةً ، وَكَانَتْ إِذَا خَرَجَتْ لِحَاجَتِهَا بِاللَّيْلِ أَشْرَفَتْ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ ، فَرَآهَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَقَالَ : انْظُرِي كَيْفَ تَخْرُجِينَ ، فَإِنَّكِ وَاللَّهِ مَا تَخْفِينَ عَلَيْنَا إِذَا خَرَجْتِ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ سَوْدَةُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي يَدِهِ عَرْقٌ ، فَمَا رَدَّ الْعَرْقَ مِنْ يَدِهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ الْوَحْيُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ جَعَلَ لَكُنَّ رُخْصَةً أَنْ تَخْرُجْنَ لِحَوَائِجِكُنَّ " .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Lady Sawda bint Zam'a (may Allah be pleased with her) was a heavily built woman. When she would go out at night to relieve herself, she would be prominent among the women. Once, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her and said: You should consider in what condition you have come out. By Allah! When you come out, you are not hidden from us. Lady Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned this to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a twig in his blessed hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet put it down from his blessed hand when the revelation was completed. He said: Allah Almighty has granted you women this concession; you may go out of your houses to relieve yourselves.
