Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about his hidden acts (i.e., the worship he performed in private). So one of them said: I will not marry. Another said: I will not eat meat. Another said: I will not sleep on a bed. (Later, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), addressing this matter,) praised and glorified Allah, then said: "What is the matter with people that they say such things? As for me, I offer (voluntary) prayers at night and I also sleep. I observe (voluntary) fasts and I also leave them. I have also married women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah has nothing to do with me."
