أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَيَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَبِي مُوسَى ، فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى : يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّجُلُ يُجْنِبُ فَلا يَجِدُ الْمَاءَ أَيُصَلِّي ؟ فَقَالَ : لا ، فَقَالَ : أَمَا تَذْكُرُ قَوْلَ عَمَّارٍ لِعُمَرَ : " بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَا وَأَنْتَ فَأَجْنَبْتُ فَتَمَعَّكْتُ فِي التُّرَابِ ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " كَانَ يَكْفِيكَ هَكَذَا : وَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ الأَرْضَ ، فَمَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَكَفِيهِ " ، فَقَالَ : لَمْ أَرَ عُمَرَ قَنَعَ بِذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : فَمَا تَصْنَعُ بِهَذِهِ الآيَةِ : فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا سورة النساء آية 43 ، فَقَالَ : أَمَا إِنَّا لَوْ رَخَّصْنَا لَهُمْ فِي هَذَا ، لَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ إِذَا وَجَدَ بَرْدَ الْمَاءِ تَيَمَّمَ بِالصَّعِيدِ ، زَادَ يَعْلَى : قَالَ الأَعْمَشُ : فَقُلْتُ لِشَقِيقٍ فَلَمْ يَكُنْ هَذَا إِلا لِهَذَا .
Shaqiq narrates: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! If a person becomes junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) and does not find water, should he perform the prayer? Sayyiduna Abdullah replied: No. Sayyiduna Abu Musa said: Do you not remember, Sayyiduna Ammar said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me and you to a certain place, and I became junub, so I rolled in the earth and then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him. He said: It would have been sufficient for you to do like this. Then he struck his hands on the earth and wiped them over his face and both arms. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I did not see Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) content with this statement. Then Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then what do you say about this verse: "And if you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If we start giving people concession in this matter, then if either of the two finds the water cold, he will perform tayammum with earth. The narrator named Ya'la has narrated this, A'mash has narrated this, I said to Shaqiq: This ruling is only for him.
