Hadith 1273

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَبْدَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : " أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَرْبَعٍ ، وَنَهَانَا عَنْ خَمْسٍ ، إِذَا رَقَدْتَ فَأَغْلِقْ بَابَكَ ، وَأَوْكِ سِقَاءَكَ ، وَخَمِّرْ إِنَاءَكَ ، وَأَطْفِئْ مِصْبَاحَكَ ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لا يَفْتَحُ بَابًا ، وَلا يَحُلُّ وِكَاءً ، وَلا يَكْشِفُ غِطَاءً ، وَإِنَّ الْفَأْرَةَ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُحْرِقُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ بَيْتَهُمْ ، وَلا تَأْكُلْ بِشِمَالِكَ ، وَلا تَشْرَبْ بِشِمَالِكَ ، وَلا تَمْشِ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ، وَلا تَشْتَمِلِ الصَّمَّاءَ ، وَلا تَحْتَبِ فِي الدَّارِ مُفْضِيًا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us with four things, and forbade us from five things. (He said:) When you go to sleep, close your door, tie the mouth of your water-skin, cover your vessel, and extinguish your lamp, because Satan does not open a closed door, does not untie a tied water-skin, does not uncover a covered vessel, and sometimes a mouse sets the house on fire along with its inhabitants. And do not eat with your left hand, do not drink with your left hand, do not walk wearing only one shoe, do not wear your garment in the manner of ishtimal as-samma’ (wrapping it tightly around the body), and do not sit in your house in such a way with your garment that your private parts become exposed.
