Hadith 1271

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَغْلِقُوا الأَبْوَابَ ، وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ ، وَخَمِّرُوا الإِنَاءَ ، وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمِصْبَاحَ ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لا يَفْتَحُ غَلَقًا ، وَلا يَحُلُّ وِكَاءً ، وَلا يَكْشِفُ إِنَاءً ، وَإِنَّ الْفُوَيْسِقَةَ تُضْرِمُ عَلَى النَّاسِ بَيْتَهُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "(At night when going to sleep) close the doors, tie the mouths of the water skins, cover the vessels, and extinguish the lamps, because the devil does not open closed doors, does not untie the mouths of tied water skins, does not remove the cover from vessels, and sometimes a mouse sets people's houses on fire."
