Hadith 1270

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الِمَنْذِرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِلَبَنٍ وَهُوَ بِالنَّقِيعِ غَيْرِ مُخَمَّرٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ تَعْرِضُ عَلَيْهِ عُودًا " . قَالَ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ : إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ بِالأَسْقِيَةِ أَنْ تُوكَأَ لَيْلا وَبِالأَبْوَابِ أَنْ تُغْلَقَ لَيْلاً .
Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I brought milk to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which was not covered. At that time, you were at the place of "Naqi‘". You said: Why did you not cover it? Even if you had placed a stick over it. Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were commanded regarding vessels that at night their mouths should be closed, and regarding doors, we were commanded that at night they should be closed.
