Hadith 1221

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفِيانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَخِي ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلالٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمْةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ فِطْرَةَ الإِسْلامِ الْغُسْلُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَالاسْتِنَانُ ، وَأَخْذُ الشَّارِبِ ، وَإِعْفَاءُ اللِّحَى ، فَإِنَّ الْمَجُوسَ تُعْفِي شَوَارِبِهَا ، وَتُحْفِي لِحَاهَا ، فَخَالِفُوهُمْ ، حُدُّوا شَوَارِبَكُمْ ، وَاعْفُوا لِحَاكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, among the natural practices of Islam are taking a bath on Friday, using the miswak, keeping the moustache short, and letting the beard grow, because the Magians grow their moustaches and trim their beards, so you should oppose them; keep your moustaches short and let your beards grow."
