Hadith 120

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَهِيَكٍ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عن رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَتَغَنَّ بِالْقُرْآنِ " قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : مَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَّا " فِي هَذِهِ الأَخْبَارِ يُرِيدُ بِهِ : لَيْسَ مِثْلَنَا فِي اسْتِعْمَالِ هَذَا الْفِعْلِ ، لأَنَّا لا نَفْعَلُهُ ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَيْسَ مِثْلَنَا .
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “Whoever does not recite the Qur’an with a pleasant voice is not one of us.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “He is not one of us,” is for the purpose of informing, and what is meant is that whoever does this act is not like us (in action), because we do not do this act, so whoever does so will not be like us.
