Hadith 1198

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي ، أَفَأَحُلُّهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَى رَأْسِكِ ثَلاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ، ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَيْكِ الْمَاءَ ، فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ " .
Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: She said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): I am a woman who has her hair braided or tied, so should I undo them for ghusl (ritual bath) due to janabah (major impurity)? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: It is sufficient for you to pour water over your head three times. Pour water over your entire body, in this way you will become pure.
