Hadith 1167

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : جَاءَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ امْرَأَةُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ ، هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا هِيَ احْتَلَمَتْ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ " .
Lady Umm Salamah’s (may Allah be pleased with her) daughter, Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates this statement from her mother, Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): Lady Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), who is the wife of Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, Allah does not shy away from the truth. If a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, if she sees water (i.e., if her semen is discharged).
