Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some of his companions who were laughing. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much." Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, says to you: Why are you making My servants despair? The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to those companions and said: Remain steadfast. Adopt moderation and receive glad tidings. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The word "Saddidu" means that you should become those who adopt rectitude, and rectitude means adhering to the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and following his Sunnah. The words of the narration "wa qaraba" mean: Do not impose upon yourselves such severity that you cannot bear. The words of the narration "wa abshiru" mean: Receive the glad tidings that when you adhere to my way and adopt moderation in your deeds, you will attain Paradise.
