Sayyidina Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was asked from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), “Should we perform prayer in the enclosures of camels?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, “No.” It was asked, “Should we perform prayer in the enclosures of goats?” He replied, “Yes.” It was asked, “Should we perform ablution after eating goat meat?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “No.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) In the question of the questioner, there is mention of performing ablution after eating camel meat and performing prayer in the enclosures of camels. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave different answers to both. I understand that what is meant is the ablution which is done for obligatory prayer. It does not mean washing both hands. The reason is, if it meant washing both hands, then the ruling regarding camel meat and goat meat would have been the same. Previously, the ruling was that ablution would be nullified by eating something cooked on fire. This ruling was abrogated, and the ruling regarding camel meat remained as an exception. This exception was made from those things which were later declared permissible, as we have mentioned earlier.
