Hadith 1107

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الْحَذَّاءُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الرُّكَيْنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ عَمِيلَةَ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ رَجُلا مَذَّاءً ، فَجَعَلْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ فِي الشِّتَاءِ حَتَّى تَشَقَّقَ ظَهْرِي ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ ذُكِرَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " لا تَفْعَلْ ، إِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمَذْيَ فَاغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ ، وَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلاةِ ، وَإِذَا نَضَحْتَ الْمَاءَ ، فَاغْتَسِلْ " .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was a person from whom madhi (pre-seminal fluid) would be discharged in abundance. Because of this, I used to perform ghusl (ritual bath) in the cold season, and as a result, my back would suffer pain. I mentioned this matter to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), or this matter was mentioned before him, so he said: Do not do this. When you see madhi, wash your private part and perform wudu as you do for prayer, and when you see water (i.e., when semen is discharged), then perform ghusl.
