Hadith 882
882/1151 (Sahih) From Abu Musa al-Ash'ari who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went out one day to a garden from the gardens of Medina for his need, and I went out following him. When he entered the garden, I sat at its door and said: "Today I will be the doorkeeper of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him," though he did not command me (1). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went and fulfilled his need, then sat on the edge of the well, uncovered his shins, and dangled them in the well. Then Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, came seeking permission to enter. I said: "Wait until I seek permission for you." So he stood, and I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr seeks permission to enter." He said: "Give him permission, and give him glad tidings of Paradise." So he entered and sat on the right of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, uncovered his shins, and dangled them in the well. Then Umar came, and I said: "Wait until I seek permission for you." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Give him permission, and give him glad tidings of Paradise." Umar came and sat on the left of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, uncovered his shins, and dangled them in the well, so the edge was filled, and there was no more space. Then Uthman came, and I said: "Wait until I seek permission for you." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Give him permission, and give him glad tidings of Paradise along with a trial that will befall him." He entered, but did not find a place with them, so he moved until he came opposite them, at the edge of the well, uncovered his shins, then dangled them in the well. I began to wish that a brother of mine would come, and I prayed to Allah that he would come, but he did not come until they stood up. Ibn al-Musayyib said: I interpreted that as their graves; they were gathered here, and Uthman was alone.

Hadith 883
883/1152 (Sahih) From Abu Huraira: The Prophet, peace be upon him, went out with a group [النهار] he did not speak to me and I did not speak to him, until he came to the market of Banu Qaynuqa‘, and he sat in the courtyard of Fatima’s house; he said: "Is Luk‘a there? Is Luk‘a there?" (3) She kept him back for a while, and I thought she was putting a necklace on him or washing him, then he came running until he embraced him and kissed him, and said: "O Allah, love him, and love those who love him."
