Hadith 571
Muhammad bin Ziyad narrates that I witnessed the era of the Salaf (the Companions). These people used to live in the same house with their families. Often it would happen that a guest would come to someone, and another person’s pot would be on the fire. The one who had the guest would take that pot for his guest. The owner of the pot, not finding his pot, would ask, “Who has taken the pot?” The one with the guest would say, “We have taken it for the guest.” The owner of the pot would say, “May Allah bless you in it,” or would say something similar. Baqiyyah said: Muhammad used to say: The same would happen with bread baking. And there would only be wooden walls between the two households. Baqiyyah says: I also witnessed this, meaning I found Muhammad bin Ziyad and his companions in this state.
