Hadith 566
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a very foul-smelling wind began to blow and it became intense. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what this is? This is the stench of those who backbite the believers." In another narration, it is stated that some hypocrites backbit some Muslims, and this wind was sent because of that.

Hadith 567
It is narrated from Ibn Umm Abd, that is, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): Whoever defends a believer in whose presence he is being backbitten, Allah will grant him a better reward in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever does not defend a believer in whose presence he is being backbitten, Allah will give him an evil recompense in this world and the Hereafter. And no one has eaten a worse morsel than the one who backbites a believing man; if what he says is actually found in him, then he has committed backbiting, and if he says something he does not know, then he has slandered him.
