Sahih Adab al-Mufrad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shakl bin Humaid, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please teach me a supplication from which I may benefit." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Say: «الله عافني من شر سمعي، وبصري، ولساني، وقلبي، وشر منيي» O Allah! Protect me from the evil of my hearing, my sight, my tongue, my heart, and my semen." Waki’ said: "Semen means adultery and immorality."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I heard (and in another narration it is) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate with these words: «رب (وفي الرواية الأخرى: (اللهم أعني ولا تعن علي، وانصرني ولا تنصر علي ، وامكر لي ولا تمكر علي، ويسر لي الهدى)) (وفي الأخرى : يسر الهدى إلي) ، وانصرني على من بغى علي. رب اجعلني شكاراً لك، ذكاراً لك راهباً لك، مطواعاً لك ، مخبتاً لك، أواهاً، منيباً تقبل توبتي واغسل حوبتي، وأجب دعوتي، وثبت حجتي، واهدِ قلبي، وسدد لساني، واسلل سخيمة قلبي» O my Lord! (and in another narration: O Allah!) Help me and do not help anyone against me, grant me victory and do not grant victory to anyone against me, plan for my good and do not plan against me, and make guidance easy for me, (and in another narration: make guidance easy towards me) and help me against those who oppress me. O my Lord! Make me grateful to You, one who remembers You, one who humbles himself before You, one who beseeches You for forgiveness for sins. Accept my repentance, wash away my sins, accept my supplication, establish my proof, guide my heart, make my tongue speak correctly, and remove malice from my heart.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Ka'b Qurazi, he said: Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both) said from the pulpit: Surely, whatever you give, no one can withhold it, and whatever Allah withholds, no one can give it, and no person of wealth can benefit you with his wealth. Whomever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion. I heard these words from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on these very planks (of the pulpit).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to supplicate: «اللهم أصلح لي ديني الذى هو عصمة أمري، وأصلح لي دنياي التى فيها معاشي، واجعل الموت رحمة لي من كل سوء» "O Allah! Set right my religion for me, for it is the safeguard of my affairs, and set right my worldly life for me, for in it is my livelihood, and make death a mercy for me from every evil." Or as he (the Prophet) said.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to seek refuge from the severity of trials, from falling into wretchedness, from the evil of fate’s decrees, and from the gloating of enemies. Sufyan said: Three things are mentioned in the hadith; I have added the fourth, but I do not know which one it is.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من العجز، والكسل، والجبن، والهرم، وأعوذ بك من فتنة المحيا والممات، وأعوذ بك من عذاب القبر» "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from helplessness, laziness, cowardice, extreme old age, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهم والحزن، والعجز والكسل، والجبن والبخل وضلع الدين ، وغلبة الرجال» "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from anxiety, sorrow, incapacity, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, the burden of debt, and the overpowering of men."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: Among the supplications of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is: «اللهم اغفر لي ما قدمت وما أخرت، وما أسررت وما أعلنت، وما أنت أعلم به مني، إنك أنت المقدم والمؤخر، لا إله إلا أنت» "O Allah! Forgive all my sins, those I committed earlier and later, those I committed secretly and openly, and those You know better than I do. You are the One Who brings forward and the One Who delays. There is no deity except You."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (who is Ibn Mas'ud) (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to supplicate: «اللهم إني أسألك الهدى، والعفاف والغنى» "O Allah! I ask You for guidance, chastity, and sufficiency." And our companions have narrated from Amr: and piety.

It is narrated from Thumamah bin Hazn that he said: I heard a sheikh loudly saying: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الشر لا يخلطه شيء» "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from such evil in which there is nothing mixed (pure evil)." I asked, who is this sheikh? It was said: Abu Darda.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would often make this supplication: «اللهم آتنا فى الدنيا حسنة، وفي الآخرة حسنة، وقنا عذاب النار» "O Allah! Grant us goodness in this world, goodness in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Hell." Shu’bah says that I presented this narration before ‘Ubadah, and he said that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to make this supplication and did not narrate it as a marfu’ (directly attributed to the Prophet).

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الفقر والذلة، وأعوذ بك أن أظلم أو أُظلم» "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from poverty, from humiliation, and I seek refuge in You from doing wrong or being wronged."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to frequently make this supplication: «اللهم! يا مقلب القلوب، ثبت قلوبنا على دينك» "O Allah! O Turner of the hearts, keep our hearts firm upon Your religion."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa, who narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: «اللهم لك الحمد ملء السماوات وملء الأرض، وملء ما شئت من شيء بعد، اللهم طهرني بالبرد والثلج والماء البارد، اللهم طهرني من الذنوب ونقني كما يُنقى الثوب الأبيض من الدنس» "O Allah! All praise is for You, as much as fills the earth, as much as fills the heavens, and as much as You will after that. O Allah! Purify me with hail, snow, and cold water. O Allah! Cleanse me from sins and purify me as a white garment is cleansed from dirt."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that among the supplications of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was this: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من زوال نعمتك، وتحول عافيتك، وفجأة نقمتك، وجميع سخطك» "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your well-being, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all forms of Your displeasure."
