Hadith 490
490/629 عن عمر؛ أنه كان فيما يدعو: "اللهم توفيني مع الأبرار، ولا تخلفني في الأشرار، وألحقني بالأخيار".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to make this supplication in his prayers: «اللهم توفيني مع الأبرار، ولا تخلفني فى الأشرار، وألحقني بالأخيار» O Allah! Grant me death among the righteous, do not leave me among the wicked, and join me with the good people.
Hadith 491
491/630 عن شقيق قال : كان عبد الله [ابن مسعود]، يكثر أن يدعو بهؤلاء الدعوات: "ربنا أصلح بيننا، واهدنا سبل الإسلام، ونجنا من الظلمات إلى النور، واصرف عنا الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن، وبارك لنا في أسماعنا وأبصارنا وقلوبنا وأزواجنا وذرّياتنا، وتب علينا إنك أنت التواب الرحيم، واجعلنا شاكرين لنعمتك، مثنين بها، قائلين بها، وأتممها علينا".
Shaqiq narrated: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) would often supplicate with these words: «ربنا أصلح بيننا، واهدنا سبل الإسلام، ونجنا من الظلمات إلى النور، واصرف عنا الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن، وبارك لنا فى أسماعنا وأبصارنا وقلوبنا وأزواجنا وذرّياتنا، وتب علينا إنك أنت التواب الرحيم، واجعلنا شاكرين لنعمتك، مثنين بها، قائلين بها، وأتممها علينا» O our Lord! Reconcile between us, set us upon the ways of Islam, deliver us from darkness into light, remove from us indecencies—those which are apparent and those which are hidden, bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our wives, and our children. Accept our repentance, indeed You are the Acceptor of repentance, the Most Merciful. Make us grateful for Your blessings, praising them, speaking of them, and complete this blessing for us.
Hadith 492
492/631 عن ثابت قال: كان أنس إذا دعا لأخيه يقول: "جعل الله عليه صلاة قوم أبرار، ليسوا بظلمة ولا فجار، يقومون الليل، ويصومون النهار".
Sayyiduna Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed for his brother, he would say: «جعل الله عليه صلاة قوم أبرار، ليسوا بظلمة ولا فجار، يقومون الليل، ويصومون النهار الله» May the mercy of the righteous descend upon him, those who are neither oppressors nor sinners, who stand in prayer at night and fast during the day.
Hadith 493
493/632 عن عمرو بن حريثٍ قال: "ذهبت بي أمي إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فمسح على رأسي، ودعا لي بالرزق".
Amr bin Harith says that my mother took me to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) passed his hand over my head and prayed for my sustenance.
Hadith 494
494/633 عن عبد الله الرومي(1)، عن أنس بن مالك قال: قيل له: إن إخوانك أتوك من البصرة- وهو يومئذ بـ: (الزاوية)- لتدعو الله لهم، قال: " اللهم اغفر لنا وارحمنا، وآتنا في الدنيا حسنة، وفي الآخرة حسنة، وقنا عذاب النار". فاستزادوه، فقال مثلها، فقال: "إن أوتيتم هذا، فقد أوتيتم خير الدنيا والآخرة".
Abdullah Rumi narrates from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: It was said to him that your brothers have come from Basra; they used to live in a corner of Basra so that you may supplicate to Allah for them. He said: «اللهم اغفر لنا وارحمنا، وآتنا فى الدنيا حسنة، وفي الآخرة حسنة، وقنا عذاب النار". فاستزادوه، فقال مثلها، فقال: "إن أوتيتم هذا، فقد أوتيتم خير الدنيا والآخرة» O Allah! Forgive us, have mercy on us, grant us goodness in this world and the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Hell. When the people desired more supplication than this, he repeated the same and said: If you are granted this, you have attained goodness in this world and the Hereafter.
Hadith 495
495/634 عن أنس بن مالك قال: أخذ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم غصنا فنفضه، فلم ينتفض، ثم نفضه فلم ينتفض، ثم نفضه فانتفض(2) قال: " إن سبحان الله، والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله، ينفضن الخطايا، كما تنفض الشجرة ورقها ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took hold of a branch and shook it, but its leaves did not fall. Then he shook it again, but still its leaves did not fall. Then, when he shook it a third time, its leaves fell. He said: «سبحان الله ، الحمد لله ، لا اله الاالله» Sins are shaken off in this way, just as a tree sheds its leaves.
Hadith 496
496/637 [عن أنس قال: ](3) فأتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم رجل فقال: يا رسول الله! أي الدعاء أفضل؟ قال: "سل الله العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة". ثم أتاه الغد. فقال: يا نبي الله! أي الدعاء أفضل؟ قال: "سل العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة، فإذا أعطيت العافية في الدنيا والآخرة، فقد أفلحت".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked: O Messenger of Allah! Which supplication is the best? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Ask Allah for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. Then that man came the next day and submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Which supplication is the best? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Ask Allah for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. When you are granted well-being in this world and the Hereafter, you have attained success.
Hadith 497
497/638 عن أبي ذر، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " أحب الكلام إلى الله: سبحان الله لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير. لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله، سبحان الله وبحمده".
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: The most beloved words to Allah are: «سبحان الله لا شريك له ، له الملك وله الحمد ، وهو على كل شيء قدير . لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله ، سبحان الله وبحمده» .
Hadith 498
498/639 عن عائشة رضي الله عنها، قالت: دخل عليّ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأنا أصلي- وله حاجة، فأبطأت عليه- قال: " يا عائشة! عليك بجمَل الدعاء، وجوامعه". فلما انصرفت، قلت: يا رسول الله! وما جمل الدعاء وجوامعه؟ قال : " قولي : اللهم إني أسألك من الخير كله، عاجله وآجله، ما علمت منه وما لم أعلم. وأعوذ بك من الشر كله عاجله وآجله، ما علمت وما لم أعلم. وأسألك الجنة وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل، وأعوذ بك من النار وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل، وأسألك مما سألك به محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأعوذ بك مما تعوذ منه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وما قضيت لي من قضاء فاجعل عاقتبه رشداً".
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that (one time) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was praying. He had some need, but I was delayed, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aisha! Make complete and comprehensive supplications." When I finished my prayer, I asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is a complete and comprehensive supplication? He said: Say: «اللهم إني أسألك من الخير كله، عاجله وآجله، ما علمت منه وما لم أعلم. وأعوذ بك من الشر كله عاجله وآجله، ما علمت وما لم أعلم. وأسألك الجنة وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل، وأعوذ بك من النار وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل، وأسألك مما سألك به محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأعوذ بك مما تعوذ منه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وما قضيت لي من قضاء فاجعل عاقتبه رشداً» "O Allah! I ask You for every good, immediate and delayed, that which I know and that which I do not know, and I seek refuge in You from every evil, of this world and the Hereafter, that which I know and that which I do not know. I ask You for Paradise and for every word and deed that brings me closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word and deed that brings me closer to it. I ask You for all that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from all that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge from. And whatever decision You make for me, make its outcome good for me."
