Hadith 474
It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Yazid that he said: Rabi’ used to come to Alqamah on Fridays. When I was not there, he would send a message to me. Once he came and I was not there, so Alqamah met me and said: Have you not seen what Rabi’ says? He says: Do you not see how much people supplicate and how little is accepted? This is because Allah does not accept any supplication except the pure ones. I said: Did Abdullah not say the same? He said: What did Abdullah say? He said that Abdullah narrated: Allah does not accept the supplication of a person who seeks fame, is a show-off, or supplicates jokingly. He only accepts the supplication that comes sincerely from the heart. The narrator said that Alqamah also mentioned this. He said: Yes.
