Sahih Adab al-Mufrad

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "When a believer falls ill, Allah purifies him (from sins) just as a furnace purifies iron from rust."

Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "When a Muslim is afflicted with pain or illness, even if a thorn pricks him or he suffers any hardship, it becomes an expiation for his sins."

Sa’d’s daughter Aisha narrates that my father said: I once became seriously ill in Mecca. The Prophet (ﷺ) came to visit me, so I said, “O Messenger of Allah! I am leaving behind wealth and I have only one daughter. Should I bequeath two-thirds of my wealth and leave one-third?” He said, “No.” I asked, “Should I bequeath half and leave half for my daughter?” He said, “No.” I asked, “Then should I bequeath one-third and leave two-thirds for my daughter?” He said, “Yes, one-third, and one-third is a lot.” After that, he placed his hand on my forehead, passed it over my face and stomach, and then prayed, “O Allah! Grant Sa’d healing and complete his migration.” Since then, to this day, whenever I remember, I feel the coolness of your blessed hand on my liver.
