Hadith 229
Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent a message to me and ordered me to come to him fully dressed and armed. So I complied, and when I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he was performing ablution. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his gaze towards me and then lowered it. After that, he said: "O Amr! I intend to appoint you as the commander of an army, so Allah will grant you spoils of war, and I desire for you what is lawful from your wealth." I said: O Messenger of Allah! I did not accept Islam for the sake of wealth. I became Muslim seeking Islam so that I could be with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." He said: "O Amr! Lawful provision is very good for a righteous man."
