Hadith 166
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Charity is obligatory upon every Muslim.” The people asked: What if someone does not find (anything to give)? He (peace be upon him) said: “He should work with his hands, benefit himself, and give charity.” The people said: What if he is not able to do that or cannot do so? He said: “Then he should help someone in severe need.” The people asked: What if he cannot do even that? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Then he should enjoin good words,” or he said, “He should enjoin what is good.” The people asked: What if he cannot do even that? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Then he should refrain from evil; that is charity for him.”

Hadith 167
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: It was said, "O Messenger of Allah! The wealthy have taken all the reward. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and (in addition to this) they give charity from their surplus wealth." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Has Allah not given you something with which you can give charity? Indeed! Every 'Subhan Allah' and every 'Alhamdulillah' is charity, and for any one of you to fulfill the duty of intimacy with his wife is charity." It was asked: "Is there charity even in fulfilling one's desire?" He replied: "If he were to fulfill it unlawfully, would he not be sinful? In the same way, if he fulfills it lawfully, there is a reward for him."
