Hadith 123
123/166 عن لقيط بن صبرة قال: انتهيت إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ودفع الراعي في المراح(1) سخلة(2)، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: "لا تحسِبَنّ – ولم يقل: لا تحسَبَنَّ– إن لنا غنماً مائة لا نريد أن تزيد، فإذا جاء الراعي بسخلة ذبحنا مكانها شاة". فكان فيما قال: " لا تضرب ظعينتك(3) كضربك أمتك، وإذا استنشقت فبالغ؛ إلا أن تكون صائماً".
Laqeet bin Sabirah narrates from his father, who said: I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) when he had given a shepherd a kid inside the enclosure. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: «لاَ تَحْسِبَنَّ» and did not say: «لاَ تَحْسَبَنَّ» (i.e., he did not pronounce it with a kasrah). Do not think that we have slaughtered a goat for you. We have a hundred goats and we do not want to have more than a hundred. When the shepherd brings a kid, we slaughter a goat in its place so that the number remains a hundred. Among what the Prophet (ﷺ) said was also: "Do not beat your wife as you beat your slave-girl, and when you rinse your nose, do so thoroughly except when you are fasting."
