Hadith 50
50/69 عن البراء قال: جاء أعرابى فقال: يا نبي الله! علمني عملاً يدخلنى الجنة. قال: "لئن كنت أقصرت الخطبة لقد أعرضت المسألة، أعتق النسمة، وفك الرقبة". قال: أو ليستا واحداً؟ قال: "لا؛ عتق النسمة أن تعتق النسمة، وفكُّ الرّقبةِ أن تُعين على الرقبة، والمنيحةُ الرغوبُ(1)، والفيء على ذي الرحم ؛ فإن لم تطق ذلك، فأمر بالمعروف، وانْهَ عن المنكر، فإن لم تطق ذلك، فكف لسانك، إلا من خير".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a deed that will admit me into Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If only you had kept your question brief, but you have made it lengthy. Free a slave and set a neck free.” He said: Are these two not the same? He replied: “No, freeing a slave means that you completely free a slave, and setting a neck free means that you help in freeing a slave. And give as a gift an animal that gives much milk, and spend on your relatives. If you do not have the ability to do this, then enjoin good and forbid evil, and if you do not have the ability to do even this, then restrain your tongue except for speaking good.”
