Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (Ghifari) رضي الله عنه that he said: My beloved friend Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم advised me with three things: “Listen and obey, even if it is a slave with mutilated ears (even if such a slave is made a ruler whose hands and feet are cut off). When you cook broth, increase its quantity and look at the houses of your neighbors and give to them (do good to them through this broth). And perform the prayer at its earliest time, and after that, if you see that the Imam has already performed the prayer, then you have attained your prayer, and if the Imam is yet to lead the prayer, then pray with him again; this will be counted as a voluntary prayer.” And in another narration with these words: “O Abu Dharr! When you cook broth, increase its water and take care of your neighbors or distribute it among your neighbors.”
