Hadith 746

746/965 (Sahih) From Abu Musa: He was with the Prophet, peace be upon him, in a garden from the gardens of Medina, and in the hand of the Prophet, peace be upon him, was a stick with which he was striking between the water and the mud—(4) then a man came seeking permission to enter, so the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Open for him, and give him glad tidings of Paradise." So I went, and it was Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, so I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then another man sought permission to enter, so he said: "Open for him, and give him glad tidings of Paradise." And it was Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, so I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then another man sought permission to enter—and he was reclining, so he sat up—and said: "Open for him, and give him glad tidings of Paradise after a trial that will befall him, or will occur." So I went, and it was Uthman, so I opened for him and informed him of what he had said. He said: Allah is the One whose help is sought.
