Hadith 627

627/811-(Sahih) From Shurayh ibn Hani who said: Hani ibn Yazid told me that when he came as a delegate to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with his people, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, heard them calling him Abu al-Hakam. So the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called him and said: "Indeed, Allah is al-Hakam, and to Him belongs the judgment. So why are you called Abu al-Hakam?" He said: No, but my people, when they differ about something, they come to me and I judge between them, and both parties are pleased. He said: "How excellent this is!" Then he said: "What children do you have?" I said: I have Shurayh, Abdullah, and Muslim; the sons of Hani. He said: "Who is the eldest of them?" I said: Shurayh. He said: "Then you are Abu Shurayh," and he prayed for him and his children. And the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, heard [قوماً](1) them calling a man among them: Abd al-Hajar, so the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "What is your name?" He said: Abd al-Hajar. He said: "No. You are Abdullah." Shurayh said: And when Hani was about to return to his land, he came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: Tell me something that makes Paradise obligatory. He said: "You must have good speech and offer food."
