Hadith 567

It is narrated from Ibn Umm Abd, that is, Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): Whoever defends a believer in whose presence he is being backbitten, Allah will grant him a better reward in this world and the Hereafter. Whoever does not defend a believer in whose presence he is being backbitten, Allah will give him an evil recompense in this world and the Hereafter. And no one has eaten a worse morsel than the one who backbites a believing man; if what he says is actually found in him, then he has committed backbiting, and if he says something he does not know, then he has slandered him.
