Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man said: “O Allah! If You do not give me wealth with which I can give charity, then put me in a trial in which there is reward for me.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Subhan Allah, you do not have the strength for this. Why did you not say: O Allah! Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of the Fire.” In another narration from him, it is reported that he said that he entered. I asked Humaid, “Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) enter?” He said: “Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to a man who had become helpless due to illness, as if he were a chick whose feathers had been plucked. So he said to him: ‘Pray to Allah for something or ask for something.’ So the man began to say: ‘O Allah, whatever punishment You are to give me on the Day of Resurrection, give it to me in this world.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Subhan Allah, you do not have the strength for this,’ or he said: ‘None of you have the ability for this. Why did you not say: «اللهم آتنا فى الدنيا حسنة ، وفي الآخرة حسنة ، وقنا عذاب النار»’ and he prayed for him, so Allah granted him healing.”
