Hadith 52

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a cloak in which some silk was mixed, so he said: "O Messenger of Allah! If you buy this cloak and wear it on Fridays or when delegations come to you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Umar! Only those people wear it who have no share (in the Hereafter)." After that, some of those cloaks were given to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent one of those cloaks to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have sent this to me, even though I have heard from you about it." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I did not give it to you so that you wear it, but I gave it to you so that you may sell it, or make someone else wear it, or give it to someone." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave it to his half-brother, who was a polytheist.
