Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): She said, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying down in my house and he had uncovered his thigh or both his shins. At that moment, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter. He allowed him to enter in that same state, and he came in and spoke. After that, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission. He also allowed him to enter in that same state, and he came in and spoke. After that, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up and adjusted his clothes. Muhammad (the narrator) said: I do not say that all three came on the same day. They entered and spoke, then when they left, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said, O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you did not move or pay attention, then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you did not move or pay attention, but when Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, you sat up and adjusted your clothes? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Should I not show modesty to the one before whom even the angels are modest?”
