Hadith 441

441/567 عن عبد الرحمن بن عوف[أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم](1) قال: "شهدت مع عمومتي حلف المطيبين(2)، فما أحب أن أنكثه، وأن لي حُمر النعم".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I participated with my uncles in the Hilf al-Mutayyibeen (a pact of peace from the time of ignorance). I would not like to break this pact even in exchange for red camels." (Mutayyibeen means those who applied perfume; Banu Hashim, Banu Zuhrah, and Banu Taym gathered in the house of Abdullah bin Jud'an, put perfume in a bowl, dipped their hands in it, and made this pact that they would help each other and ensure the rights of the poor and needy. They agreed that no one would be allowed to be oppressed or to oppress others there.)
