Hisham narrates from his father that he said: I and Abdullah bin Zubair went to Lady Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her) ten days before Abdullah (bin Zubair) was killed, and Lady Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her) was ill. Abdullah said to her: How are you feeling? She said: I am in pain. Abdullah said: Death is facing me (my death is certain). Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Perhaps you want me to die, so you wish for it. Do not do so. By Allah! I do not wish for death until your matter is decided, either you are killed and I will be patient over it, or you are victorious and my eyes will be cooled. Beware, do not agree to any suggestion out of fear of death with which you are not satisfied. Abdullah had in his heart that he would be killed, so Asma’ (may Allah be pleased with her), his mother, would not have to bear the shock.
